Chargers beat Jets (I think) in epic battle of awful teams.

I'm not going to lie...I really put forth a half-assed effort to watch this game.  I recorded the game, had the score leaked to me by my dad on the phone before I could get home, watched it three hours after it aired live, and still only paid attention to approximately every other play.  I guess a win is always nice, even in a lost season.  It means that the Chargers haven't completely given up on themselves, and there might be hope in 2013.  Final score: Chargers 27 - Jets 17

Even with a rookie quarterback making his first NFL start for the New York Jets of East Rutherford, New Jersey, I was very surprised how easy the Chargers made this game look.  The offense wasn't very exciting to watch, but Denario Alexander, once again, asserted himself as San Diego's most dangerous weapon by gathering 3 receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown, while Antonio Gates cemented his place in Chargers' history by breaking Lance Alworth's touchdown reception record with his 82nd career trip to the end zone.  Michael Spurlock took the Jets' first punt of the day to the house, a 63 yard return, and gave the Chargers an early 7-0 lead early in the 1st quarter.  The real story of the day was John Pagano's defense.  Now, let's be honest, the NY Jets' quarterback situation has been a complete joke.  Mark Sanchez was demoted from starter to #2, Tim Tebow went from #2 to #3 without getting a chance to really prove himself and now wants a trade, and rookie Greg McElroy was promoted from #3 to starter.  Makes sense, right?  Well, young McElroy got a rude welcome to the NFL as the Chargers defense brought the pain with 11 sacks and a Corey Lynch interception.  I said it before and I'll say it again, if anyone deserves to survive the impending changes at Chargers Park, it's John Pagano.

We have only one more week left of this dismal 2012 season, and a home date with the Oakland Raiders should be the final nail in Norv's coffin.  Even though every true blue Charger fan hates the Raiders with every fiber of their being, should we really be hoping for a win?  After last season, we all thought Norv was toast, but Dean Spanos saw past the doom and gloom and found some reason to keep Turner around.  If the Chargers beat Oakland and finish the season by winning 3 of their last 4 games, will this give Spanos another excuse to not make a change?  Will he try to sell this turd nugget of a coach to the fans as "the right guy" again?  I am hoping Spanos learned from his mistake and realizes that A.J. Smith and Norv have made fools of the Chargers and the Spanos family and does the right thing.

One more week, fellow Boltheads....one more week.
