IR forces Richard Goodman to take a knee

Good news, Chargers fans!  Richard Goodman won't be returning kickoffs that are nine yards deep in the end zone anymore in 2012.  Why?  Because his body finally overrode his brain and said, "enough is enough."  A hamstring injury will place Goodman on injured reserve, ending his season.

Anytime there is news from Chargers Park, it's bad news.  Well, at least that's been the case for the past few seasons.  Injuries, scandals, soul-crushing loses...they have all been headlines in what has been one of most disheartening seasons that I can remember in all my years of being a Chargers fan.  It has been disheartening, not just because this is a bad team lead by inept leadership dictators, but because reality has finally set in for everyone wearing powder blue and gold that the window of opportunity has been boarded up, and the house that A.J. built with inferior materials has been condemned.

Richard Goodman demonstrates in practice why he only has one reception in three seasons.
On my twitter feed, I have made no secret of my absolute disgust with Goodman's decision making as the Chargers kickoff return man.  Unfortunately, the Chargers don't have any better options.  Eddie Royal has been battling nursing a hamstring injury that could likely be an issue for the remainder of the season.  Chris Carr returned the only other kickoff the Chargers saw on Sunday afternoon, and gained all of 11 yards.  Eric Weddle served as the team's punt returner in place of Royal, and while he did have one impressive return of 20 yards, he is hardly the guy you want in that position considering how much his presence means to the Chargers defense.  Will the team give recently re-signed WR Seyi Ajirotutu a shot at returning kicks?  Perhaps.  But for a team struggling to find success through the air, his value in the passing game could far outweigh the risk of injury Ajirotutu might suffer in the return game.

It's just another dismal day in Chargerville.  Just when you think it couldn't get any worse...well...you know how that phrase ends.
